Second Time at Ironman Canada!

I was in the lunchroom of the Summerland RCMP detachment when I saw the poster asking, “Do you have what it takes?”  Curious,  I read on to discover that the B.C. IronCops Team was looking for participants for the 2006 IronMan.  I had been posted to the Summerland in 2003 and had seen that incredible event just down the road in Penticton .  Everyone in town had an IronMan shirt of one form or another and I knew many that had competed in and completed the event.  All year round, people were training.   I put in my name.

I had first participated in the Canadian Cancer Society’s  “Cops for Cancer - Tour for a Friend” in 2003.  I was representing the Burnaby RCMP and had the great support of my fellow officers to meet the funding challenge.  I was also immensely moved by the courage of a small girl named Michaela and her family who I was partnered with.   Soon after,  I was transferred to the Okanagan but the memory of Michaela stayed with me.  I again participated in RCMP sponsored biking tours in the Okanagan area and found the events moderately challenging.  But now my greatest challenge is here.

I have recently been transferred back to the lower mainland.  My physical training is under way and my doctor says my knees will hurt but I will do no permanent damage. My swimming is horrible but will have to do.    My goals are twofold;  to complete the 2008 IronMan and raise $5000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
