10th Ironman Start!

George D. Pravda, age 60, I enlisted in  the Michigan Department of  State Police on November 8. 1970. After training in East Lansing I was assigned to the Niles Post which is just North of the Michigan/Indiana State Line.  Hence my allegiance to Notre Dame.  A friend of the Post Commander used to stop by the

Post in Niles and drop of a dozen tickets, which were in blocks of four each. They were 20 rows up on each side of the 50 yard line. "Touch Down Jesus" as the Mosaic on the library was named "looked over the stadium."

I was assigned for a short time to the Detroit Freeway Post when the governor of the state "took over" the policing  of the city freeways in Detroit.  In October of 1979 I was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Benton Harbor Post.  In 1983 the Post moved from Benton Harbor to St. Joseph, Michigan. I transferred to the Grand Haven Post in April of 1987.  (Grand Haven is the location I spent the first 21 years of my life) It is a beautiful area along the shores of Lake Michigan.

I retired for the Department on December 31, 1995. I presently live in Holland, Michigan

I have been involved in triathlons for about 8 years.  I met my present (second) wife at a 5 K race, and she had been doing triathlons for 20 years.  I became interested through her.  We have both "started" 9 Ironman races.  Wisconsin, Coeur do Alone , Florida, and Canada.  She ( all five foot 95 pounds of her) has finished all nine.  I however, have only finished four.  Heat, mechanical problems, and injuries were involved in my DNF's. I will complete Canada in 2008.

I plan to raise money for CFC, because I  have had four uncles, and all four of my Grandparents die of some form of Cancer.
